Who we are:

For nearly fifteen years, The Learning Curve has been offering tutoring and counseling to students of the Lake Norman area, empowering them to succeed in high school and preparing them to thrive in college and beyond. 

Our newest service is a set of comprehensive College Admissions Counseling packages building on the success of our annual Admissions Workshop series, which has been assisting students with their Common Application and admissions profiles for the past five years.

What we offer:

Founder/owner Roni LaBarbera and Thomas Simonson, The Learning Curve’s English Coordinator, are excited to offer a more intensive pair of options to parents and students, offering them guidance throughout every step of the process. We are excited to work with families in providing them personalized assistance with:

  • Transcript preparation and advising for class selection in high school

  • Resume building and selecting compelling extracurriculars

  • Brainstorming and editing personal statements and supplementary essays

  • Standardized testing overviews, helping your student navigate test-optional admissions and strategizing between ACT and SAT

  • Researching colleges and academic programs

  • Navigating recruitment of student athletes

  • Common App account set-up and application procedures

  • Scholarship applications, including essay submissions

How it works:

Option 1: “Long-View” Advising

  • For high schoolers through Spring of their Junior year seeking guidance in targeted areas before admissions season

  • Transcript preparation & class selection in high school

  • Resume building and selecting extracurriculars

  • Standardized testing counseling to navigate test-optional, ACT, and SAT options

  • Price: 

    • $120/hr for as-needed counseling sessions

    • Personalized packages available for semester-based standing appointments

Option 2: “All-In-One” Admissions Advising

  • Guidance throughout your student’s admissions season from the summer after their Junior year through their respective admissions deadlines (typically November and/or early Spring of their Senior year)

  • Assistance with researching colleges and academic programs

  • One-on-one “on call” assistance with all things Common App and applications 

  • Oversight of college essays, including the personal statement, supplemental essays, and scholarship essays

  • Periodical “check-ins” with your student, keeping them on target with all necessary steps for their applications

  • Price:

    • Our personalized “All-In-One” packages are prepared for each client’s unique needs.
